Throwback to 2023: A 25th Anniversary Celebration Unforgettable in Every Way!

On Thursday, June 9, 2023, we hosted our 25th anniversary of Older, Bolder, Better!  It was a fantastic day for seniors, local businesses, non-profit organizations, and The Westend Seniors Activity Centre (WSAC) to celebrate!

WSAC staff and volunteers were on hand to greet everyone as they arrived and help them find their way around the centre!  We are so fortunate to have our army of volunteers that help us here at our centre.  And it really does take an army of volunteers to host an event like Older, Bolder, Better!

     

OPENING CEREMONIES AND GUEST SPEAKERS

Our guest speakers talked about how technology can help us as we age.  Westend Senior’s Executive Director, Dr. Haidong Liang greeted guests and told them about the new app that we have created for seniors.  Next up was GoGetFit Founder and ER doctor Dr. Peter Rawlek talked about how the GoGetFit app could help seniors stay connected through their app.

       

LOTS TO SEE AND DO AT OLDER BOLDER BETTER 2023

The events featured over 50 businesses and non-profit organizations.  We heard from many of the attendees they were thrilled to be able to get the kind of information that the vendors had available to them.   There was also lots to do with our book and puzzle sale, a free photo booth, hosted by our Friends of WSAC partner Chartwell Retirement Residence

       

 

The event also featured a 50/50 sale, over 30 door prizes up for grabs and free coffee & cookies from our Friends of WSAC partners Stanford Hearing!

           

AN OUTDOOR MARKET, E-BIKE DEMOS AND MORE!

This was the second year that we hosted outside events.  Our tennis court was once again turned into a farmer’s market, featuring local vendors.  Bike gurus Mud Sweat & Gears were outdoors hosting e-bike demos and educating attendees on how e-bikes can be an option for us as we age. The Commonwealth Lawn Bowling Society were also here telling us about the fun events they are hosting at their location here in the west end.

     

BOB LAYTON, POPCICLES, AND EVEN MORE!

NOW Radio was on hand to hand out popsicles to all of our guests.  Our featured entertainment was Radio and TV personality Bob Layton and it was a full house that enjoyed his presentation and talk about his days with 630 Ched.

   

 

Our tradeshow vendors were in all 3 of our main rooms here at our centre.  

     

THERE WAS A LITTLE BIT FOR EVERYONE!

We were also fortunate to have retirement residences such as The Waterford and Lewis Estates Retirement Residence bring busloads of their residents to the event.  We also had a visit from our local MLA Lorne Dach.  Chef Stu and his team did an incredible job preparing the food for our business mixer the evening before, the meals for our vendor, and offering lunch to the attendees.  We also had our social media gurus Strong Coffee Marketing on hand to host our Facebook Live interviews with all of our Gold and Silver sponsors.

When Dr. Haidong Liang became our Executive Director, one of his priorities was to ensure that the Westend Seniors Activity Centre created win-win partnerships with businesses and other non-profit organizations.
