WE Seniors Community Garden

We are starting at Community Garden here at our centre! The funds raised will be used to purchase everything needed to build our raised garden beds

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY GARDEN?

WSAC is excited to be in the planning stages of a potential Community Garden at the centre. This will be a big project requiring many hands to make it happen. We are putting together a planning committee to get the ball rolling and are looking for volunteers to participate.

Are you someone who:

  • Has gardening knowledge or has worked in a community garden previously
  • Knows sustainability, reusing and repurposing
  • Has carpentry or landscaping knowledge and skills
  • Has great community connections and may be comfortable approaching businesses or other organizations for support or donations
  • Loves to find great deals and free stuff or research programs that support community gardens
  • Has great leadership skills and would be comfortable leading a smaller group of volunteers in completing tasks related to the garden
  • Enjoys planning and coordinating events, gatherings, work bees

INTERESTED?!

If you answered yes to any of these questions and are interested in helping our community garden become a reality, contact Heather Riberdy at he*****@*******rs.ca or call 780 483 1209

WE Seniors Men’s Shed

The WE Seniors Men’s Shed is averaging 20 “shedders” each week who get together for conversation and connection. Funds raised will be used to purchase tools and supplies needed to run our shed and some of our activities.

WHAT IS A MEN’S SHED

A Men’s Shed (or Shed) is a community-based organization that provides a casual space for men to connect, socialize and work on projects together that can benefit their community.  In other words, men come together to tinker, tell stories and hang out for good fun and (often) good food!

“SHEDDERS”

The name “Men’s Shed” comes from the idea of a backyard shed where you can go to make and mend. Men’s Sheds are like that, only you’re there together with others where friendships are built, knowledge is shared, and connections are made. It can be a community hall, an old warehouse, someone’s garage, or a virtual online meeting.  Joining a Shed is easy, and they’re always happy to welcome new members — or as we like to call them, Shedders.
