Howdy Campers!
As summer approaches, we are excited to continue offering free in-person and virtual workshops! Bookings are now open from May 30 to August 22, 2025. We are also hosting four Overnight Events at Elk Island National Park this year!
Free Workshop Menu: June-August 2025
Topics offered below can be delivered virtually or in-person. Program length varies between 60-90 minutes.
Camping 101
Available for everyone
Camping basics workshop for beginner and intermediate campers. From setting up a tent to cooking outdoors, participants will learn the camping skills to feel confident on their next trip!
Choose Your Own Outdoor Adventure
Available for everyone
Everything you need to know to create a fun-filled camping itinerary, regardless of your skill level. Learn about nearby parks, types of camping and plenty of other outdoor recreational activities.
Wild for Wildlife
Available for everyone
Become an expert in Canadian wildlife before your next adventure! In this workshop, learn about wildlife and explore ways to protect Canada’s natural places and the critters who live there.
Learn-to Bird* New!
In-person Classes Only
New to birdwatching? Join us for a beginner-friendly guided walk in the river valley, where you’ll learn to identify local bird species and enjoy the sights and sounds of summer. Binoculars are available to borrow, or bring your own!
- Duration: Available on Saturday and Sunday mornings
- Terrain: 1-2kms on foot over uneven terrain
Camping Conversation Club
Newcomers and English Classes (virtual only)
Participants will practice their English conversation skills and learn about national parks in Canada in this conversation club style workshop.
Join us for our Overnight Events!
Learn-to Camp overnights are family-friendly weekend events designed to teach the fundamentals of camping in the great outdoors. Campers will spend Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning taking part in hands-on workshops on how to pitch a tent, build a campfire, use a camp stove, and much more! Tents, foam sleeping pads and camp stoves are provided. Participants must provide their own transportation, bedding and food. Camping and daily park admission are included in the event cost. Maximum 70 participants for each event.
Private Overnight Events
Group bookings only (min. 35 participants)
Perfect for groups/organizations interested in hosting a beginner friendly camping program.

- Saturday, July 12 to Sunday, July 13, 2025
- Saturday, July 19 to Sunday, July 20, 2025

Public Overnight Events
Available to all
Great for individuals looking to elevate their camping skills with their friends and/or family.
Available dates:
- Saturday, August 2 to Sunday, August 3, 2025
- Saturday, August 9 to Sunday, August 10, 2025
Location: Elk Island National Park
Cost:
- $80.25 for camping equipment use fee and one participant.
- $20.25 for each additional person in a group.
- Free for children 6 and under.
