City of Edmonton Archives
City Archives Records, History & More!
We have all heard of the City of Edmonton Archives but do we know all that it has to offer? Did you know the Archives has civic government records going back to Edmonton’s incorporation as a town in 1892? Or that the archives also has over 700 private collections of personal records from individuals, organizations and businesses that ensures Edmonton’s social, political, and cultural history is preserved?
Come join us for a fascinating journey as we learn how we can:
access records and photographs to pursue interests like genealogy or our other areas of interest:
- view their catalog of photographs dating back to the 1880s
- access their extensive collection of newspaper clippings files, dating from the 1920s,
- learn about the many Edmonton newspapers they have available on microfilm dating back to 1878, and
- view over 700 maps of Edmonton and area starting from 1882 to get a unique geographic guide to Edmonton’s development.
and the programs and events that they offer!
Whether you are an active genealogist or looking for somewhere new to visit and explore, our goal with this presentation is to showcase this fantastic resource and all it has to offer!
9:45 to 10:30 a.m.
