OUR HISTORY

  • Established in 1978, the Westend Seniors Activity Centre (WSAC) is a charitable non-profit organization based in Edmonton, Alberta.
  • For over 47 years, WSAC has been an active participant in numerous initiatives at the national, provincial, and municipal levels.
  • Our efforts are aimed at engaging seniors from all backgrounds, including mainstream, ethnic minority, and indigenous seniors, to promote healthy aging within their communities.
  • We proudly offer more than 100 in-person and online recreational and social programs and drop-in activities to our community of over 2,000 members throughout the year.
  • We also provide a multitude of opportunities for over 150 volunteers who collectively contribute more than 10,000 hours annually, making us one of the most dynamic senior-serving organizations in Alberta.

OUR GROWTH

The past five years have witnessed the Centre’s incredible growth and transformation, especially during the pandemic.

  • Launched in 2018, our game-changing ‘WE Seniors’ platform is an open-access solution designed to tackle the most pressing social challenges faced by seniors and their support networks—offering cost-effective tools that drive meaningful impact.
  • In April 2020, the YEG Seniors Alliance was created to address the program and service gaps in the greater Edmonton area during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • In May 2022, the Alliance was expanded and rebranded as the Alberta Seniors Alliance providing backbone support numerous peer and grassroots organizations.
  • Since 2020, we have extended our award-winning volunteer program to elementary schools, offering programs in community leagues and churches.
  • In 2022, we were commissioned by Strathcona County to develop an integrated community hub responding to the urgent needs of the region’s fastest-growing older adult population to improve access for seniors in remote and rural communities.  As a result, WE Seniors Strathcona County was born,
