Get ready for an unforgettable trek through Alberta’s living history!
On June 24th, we’re hitting the road to explore the legendary Victoria Trail and the historic Victoria Settlement.
This isn’t just a scenic drive; it’s a journey through the oldest road in Alberta still following its original route. Whether you’re a history buff, a nature lover, or just looking for a perfect summer escape, this trip offers a unique window into the province’s rugged past.
Highlights of the Trip
- The Victoria Trail: Wind along the North Saskatchewan River on a path used for centuries by Indigenous peoples, fur traders, and early settlers. It’s the ultimate “scenic route” with deep roots.
- The Victoria Settlement: Founded in 1862, this site was a bustling hub of Methodist mission work and the Hudson’s Bay Company trade.
- The Clerk’s Quarters: Step inside the oldest building in Alberta still standing on its original foundations (built in 1864!).
- Living History: Experience what life was like in the 1860s through costumed interpreters and preserved structures that tell the story of the Métis and pioneer families.
