Travel Trip: A Day in Mundare – A Throwback
On Tuesday, September 16, our group set out on a road trip to Mundare — and what a wonderful day it turned out to be!
The adventure began with a cheerful bus ride, filled with laughter and anticipation. Our first stop was Baba’s Café, where we enjoyed a hearty Ukrainian lunch surrounded by walls full of beautiful art and paintings. From borscht to perogies and cabbage rolls, every bite was a taste of comfort and tradition. A sweet surprise awaited us too — the café’s famous cinnamon buns, so irresistible that almost everyone grabbed one to take home!
In the afternoon, we stepped into the Basilian Fathers Museum, a cultural gem filled with fascinating artifacts, textiles, and stories of Ukrainian settlement in East-Central Alberta. The visit gave us a deeper appreciation of the area’s rich history and heritage.
We also made time to explore the town itself. A highlight of the afternoon was the stop at the World’s Largest Sausage, where we gathered for photos and plenty of smiles. Another memorable moment was our visit to a local church, where the stunning chandeliers and peaceful atmosphere left a lasting impression.
The day wrapped up with a visit to Stawnichy’s Meat Processing, where many of us stocked up on their legendary Ukrainian sausage and other delicious treats to enjoy later.
It was a day full of culture, history, good food, and great company — the perfect way to capture the last golden days of summer. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this memorable fall road trip!
