BRAIN HEALTH PRO: SMALL STEPS FOR A HEALTHIER BRAIN
There are things we can do in our everyday lives that may help lower the risk of developing dementia and support brain health as we age.
Brain Health Pro highlights seven important areas of brain health:
- Vision & Hearing: Get your hearing and vision checked and treated when needed.
- Vascular Health: Stay active, eat well and talk to your doctor about your blood pressure.
- Cognitive Engagement: Keep your brain active by learning new skills and trying new activities.
- Social & Psychological Health: Stay connected with friends, family and your community.
- Sleep: Make good sleep a priority and practise healthy sleep habits.
- Physical Activity: Include activities such as walking, cycling or swimming in your daily and weekly routine.
- Nutrition: Choose healthy foods and include vegetables and other nutritious choices in your meals.
Pre-Screening: What You Need to Know
Before you can participate in the Brain Health PRO (BHPro) Implementation Study, you must first complete a short pre-screening questionnaire.
The pre-screening helps the BHPro research team determine whether you may be a potential candidate for the study. Completing the pre-screening does not guarantee that you will be eligible or accepted into the study. The research team will review the information you provide and decide whether you meet the initial criteria.
Here’s how it works:
- Scan the QR code or click the link provided.
- Answer a few initial questions about your age, health, and general wellbeing.
- The BHPro research team will review your answers to determine whether you may be eligible.
- If you are eligible to continue, you will receive an email with the next steps.
- Review the electronic consent form carefully.
- The form explains what participation involves, how your information will be protected, and your rights as a research participant.
- If you decide to participate, you can provide your consent online.
- After providing consent, you will receive an email inviting you to complete an initial brain health assessment.
- The assessment takes about 20 minutes.
- Choose a quiet time when you can focus without interruption.
- You will receive another email inviting you to register on the Brain Health PRO website.
- Create your account and password.
- Set aside about one hour to complete your account registration and remaining starting questions.
- These questions look at areas such as your brain health knowledge, everyday habits, and confidence in making healthy changes.
- Your answers help the research team understand how Brain Health PRO may support participants over time.
- Once you have completed the starting steps, you can begin the Brain Health PRO modules.
- Explore topics such as physical activity, nutrition, sleep, social and psychological health, cognitive engagement, vascular health, and vision and hearing.
- Work through the program at your own pace over approximately six months.
