MAY PICKS OF THE MONTH from Aligra Wine & Spirits!
Each month, Alison Philips, co-owner of Aligra Wine & Spirits, and her team will provide us with some tasty suggestions! Many of you will remember Alison as one of our, our Friends of WSAC partners and the wonderful host of our wine tasting events here at our centre that were held in 2020.
Co-Owner Alison’s Pick: Spier Signature Rose Western Cape, South Africa
Tasting Notes: Beautiful light salmon pink in colour, this Rose carries flavours of strawberry and yellow apple. The finish is crisp and fruity. The wine pairs beautifully with seafood salad, avocado, or smoked salmon. Made with a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. Spier is one of the oldest wineries in South Africa. Had the pleasure of visiting in 2016. One of my favourite wineries!
Staff member Warren’s pick: Ezra Brooks Bourbon Kentucky USA
Tasting Notes: while considered a lower end bourbon, don’t be fooled by price. Sourced from Heaven Hills, this bourbon works mighty fine. On the nose, it’s oak, dark fruit, caramel, nuts, spice and some herbal and cocoa notes. On the palate, nutty and oak with touches of leather and vanilla Medium finish with decent balance.
Staff Member Derek’s: Waterloo Craft Lager Canada
Tasting Notes: If you’re Ontario’s first craft brewery, 35 years old, you make a special beer! To brew Waterloo Craft Lager, they use Pacific Northwest legendary hops, predominantly 2-Row Canadian barley malt and just enough roasted malt for a rich colour and distinctive flavour. The resulting golden lager is refreshing and easy to drink, with a great balance of bitter and sweet. One of the best lagers I’ve had in a long time.
