It’s a global campaign to improve awareness of heart valve disease.
In Canada, awareness of heart valve disease is low – joining this initiative ensures more Canadians know the symptoms and the importance of early detection.

Heart valve disease affects any of the four valves causing narrowing, leakage, or stiffness, leading to symptoms like breathlessness, fatigue, dizziness, and chest pain, often mistaken for aging.
It is common, especially after age 60, and may be asymptomatic.
Regular stethoscope checks are essential for early detection and treatment.

Meet the Presenter
Dr. Ben Tyrrell
Dr. Ben Tyrrell is the Director of the C.K. Hui Cardiology Care Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, where he practices interventional cardiology. He is also the Co-Director of the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation Program at the Mazankowski Heart Institute and is currently Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta. Dr. Tyrrell regularly participates in the “Listen to Your Heart” public health campaign led by Heart Valve Voice Canada, supporting public heart murmur screenings and early detection for heart valve disease.
