West End Seniors Activity Centre (WSAC)—a name that echoes through Edmonton like a cherished melody. For 45 glorious years, it has stood tall, independent and unwavering, like a seasoned oak in a bustling forest.
Picture this: It’s August 1, 1978—a day etched in the annals of WSAC history. The sun winks, the birds hum, and a group of spirited seniors gather. They’re not just any seniors; they’re the Edmonton Self Starters Organization—a league of visionaries, dream-weavers and mischief-makers.
Their mission? To create a haven—a sanctuary where age is but a number, and community is the heartbeat. They yearned to stay close to the soil they tilled, the streets they strolled, and the memories they wove.
So, with sleeves rolled up and determination ablaze, they birthed WSAC. Non-profit, independent, and fueled by love, it blossomed. And oh, how it bloomed!
Fast-forward to today: WSAC is enjoyed by so many seniors in its walls. Programs, like colorful threads, weave joy into their days. Amenities, like hidden treasures, await discovery. And the spirit of those pioneers—those self-starters—lives on.
