3RD ANNUAL AMAZING RACE AND CHALLENGE

On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, the Westend Seniors Activity Centre hosted our 3rd annual WESeniors Amazing Race and Challenge.

It was a gorgeous day (thank goodness for cars with air conditioning!) with over 65 seniors participating.  We always have lots of cars lined up and ready to start the race and this year was the same.  We had 2 routes for participants to take this year and we sent them on their way with their maps and a loot bag with water and muffins prepared by our amazing cafe team

Drumroll Please:

It is time to announce the winners of the Amazing Race 2023:

First Place winner is – Don MacLeod
Second Place winner is  – Jean MacLeod
Third Place winner is – Barry McKercher

A huge round of applause to the winners of this year’s event and to all the participants. We had a great year and cant wait to see you around the centre

THE FRIENDS OF WSAC ROCK!

Once again our Friends of WSAC partners did a fantastic job of hosting fun games at their locations with lots of cookies, chocolate, and drinks being handed out to the participants as they made their way across the city to visit all of the locations.

The WSAC team headed out on the road to see all the stops.  First up we stopped right in our neighborhood and visited Wildrose Retirement Residence.  They always do a great job setting up for the day and the best part is that everyone who attended their stop received one of their famous homemade cookies.

Cura Physical Therapies had a fun game of Pin The Tail On The Donkey so everyone could have some fun AND test their balance!  We loved the tails that they created for their game!  We stayed in the neighborhood and stopped at The Waterford of Summerlea Retirement Residence where we watched participants play corn hole.

Servus Credit Union, MP Kelly McCauley, and Terra Losa Pharmacy all had some fun trivia games for our participants (who knew there are 6 time zones in Canada!)

TREATS AND DRINKS FOR EVERYONE!

When we plan our event each year, we ask our business partners to make sure they have treats and door prizes up for grabs and we are always amazing by how excited they get about being part of the event.  This year, Armour Insurance gets props for being the only business to have a Plinko game AND a brand new Kindle as their door prize.  The Brilliant Brush had their super fun fishing game again this year which is a favorite and Chartwell AND Mud Sweat & Gears both had some fun games where participants got to shoot nerf guns!

Our friends at Drive Happiness and Providence Chiropractic are neighbors so that made things super easy for our participants.  Lots of our participants ended their race at our favorite store in WEM…Aligra Wine and Spirits where owner and wine-tasting guru Alison was on hand to show us her pong skills!

STOPS AT OUR CENTRE

Some of our business partners hosted their games at our centre.  Michael Draper of Maxwell Realty, Medi Pedi Edmonton and Heart 2 Care Homecare all braved the heat and set up their games outdoors in the shade.  Our friends at Infinity Health had the best retro game of the day…how long has it been since any of us played Operation!  Andrew Knack’s team was onhand with a fun game AND some great handouts about city programs and services for seniors!

We ended our event with a free bbq for all of our participants.
