NEW OPPORTUNITY! – La Perle Elementary Craft Club – Instructors and Helpers
We are still looking for volunteers to help us with this important program! We’ve had great success with our Craft Club at Laperle Elementary in 2024 and hope to continue it into 2025. The school has identified that many students lack the opportunities to learn and experience arts and crafts that would typically be passed down from older generations due to moving away from their extended families and lack of funding and staffing/volunteers to teach some of these skills in schools.
With the help of a grant secured by Westend Seniors Activity Centre, we are working with LaPerle Elementary School to offer students a drop-in crafting club to be offered on Tuesdays during the student’s lunch hour.
- Each craft would be taught over 4 weeks with one session per week of approximately 25 minutes each
- We will be working with Grades 5-6 (Ages 10 to 12). Projects will need to be age-appropriate.
- The craft club will take place at LaPerle Elementary School.
We have TWO different volunteer positions to fill to assist with this initiative:
VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTORS
- We are looking for volunteers who have good knowledge of one of these specific crafts that they would love to teach to the younger generation.
- You will have support from 2-3 volunteers and a WSAC staff at the start of your session but you are welcome to work with a friend or family member who shares the same knowledge of your craft.
VOLUNTEER HELPERS
- These volunteers will help with setting up for the craft as well as assisting the instructor and students as needed.
Upcoming dates and planned crafts:
- Tuesdays, February 25, March 4, 11 and 18 – Pysanky Easter Eggs or Papier Mache Eggs
- Tuesdays, April 15, 22 29 and May 6 – Hand Pottery
- Tuesdays, May 13, 27 June 3 and 10 – Friendship Bracelets
