What We Do
Drive Happiness is a non-profit organization providing assisted transportation to older people with limited income or support, or those with health-related issues. Volunteers safely drive older people wherever they need to go, whether it’s the grocery store, a medical office, a facility like WSAC, or a loved one’s residence. We aim to enhance mobility and connect older adults to the resources needed to live and age well. Drive Happiness values collaboration and cohesiveness with other agencies in the community to effectively and efficiently deliver its mission.
Drive Happiness is fueled by volunteer power!
Our volunteers choose where, when and how often they drive (around their own personal schedule) and receive a gas reimbursement. Each ride is not only needed transportation but also offers riders connection and a sense of belonging. Volunteer drivers are screened and trained. They must provide a vulnerable security clearance, a clean driving abstract, and a well-maintained vehicle. Helping neighbors attend WSAC and other appointments is fun and flexible!
How It Works
- Rider applicants pay a small annual membership fee, and purchase paperless tickets for $12 each.
- Tickets allow up to 90 minutes or 40 kilometers, whichever comes first.
- Time or distance exceeding these limits will require additional tickets.
- Rides must be booked 3 business days in advance.
- Rides are booked between 9 am and 4 pm Monday – Friday (excluding statutory holidays).
- Rider applicants should be 65 or over, with sufficient mobility that they can enter and exit vehicles with minimal assistance.
