Stress is a natural part of life, but how we respond to it makes all the difference. Join us for Minding Stress, an engaging and practical three-part series designed to help you understand, manage, and reduce stress through awareness, tools, mindfulness, self-care, and self-management.

Being Aware of Stress
- Identifying Stressors – Recognize the sources of stress in your daily life and understand how they impact you.
- Signs and Symptoms – Learn how stress manifests physically, emotionally, and mentally.
- Reflecting on Values – Explore how personal values influence your stress response and decision-making.
- Journaling – Use writing as a tool for self-reflection, gaining clarity, and processing emotions.
Using Tools
- Progressive Muscle Relaxation – Reduce tension by systematically relaxing different muscle groups.
- Breathing Techniques – Practice deep breathing exercises to calm the nervous system and manage stress.
- Thinking Strategies – Shift negative thought patterns to develop a more positive and resilient mindset.
- Visualizing – Use guided imagery to create a sense of calm and focus.
Being Mindful
- Grounding Techniques – Stay present and centered using simple exercises that anchor you in the moment.
- Mindful Meditation – Train your mind to focus on the present, reducing anxiety and improving emotional balance.
- Self-Compassion – Learn to treat yourself with kindness and patience instead of self-criticism.
- Mindful Eating – Improve your relationship with food by eating with awareness and intention.
Managing Self-Care
- Being Active – Discover the benefits of movement and exercise in managing stress.
- Managing Sleep – Learn strategies for improving sleep quality and establishing restful routines.
- Enjoying Hobbies – Find joy and relaxation through activities that bring you fulfillment.
- Connecting with Others – Strengthen relationships and build a support system for better emotional well-being.
Using Self-Management Skills
- Evaluating Sources – Learn how to assess information, filter out negativity, and focus on helpful resources.
- Action Planning – Set realistic goals and create steps to manage stress more effectively.

KNOW THE INSTRUCTORS
Arisha Mohammed is a Self-Management Consultant on the Chronic Disease Management team with Primary Care Alberta. She is an experienced facilitator and trainer for many community workshops for people living with chronic conditions. She is passionate about the positive impact that self-management skills can have on someone living with chronic conditions, specifically for stress management. Arisha has a Masters of Health Studies with a focus in health promotion.
Lisa Gerard is a Registered Nurse with Primary Care Alberta, with many years of experience supporting seniors and people living with chronic illness in the community. She has a strong interest in mindfulness, stress management, and self-compassion, and is passionate about sharing these practices to help others manage their health and well-being.
