Sadaf Saleem Murad-Kassam (MN, BScN, GNC(C), RN), PhD Candidate at the University of Alberta, will explore important considerations for individuals living with dementia and their families. Learn about navigating hospital stays, the vital role of family caregivers, and practical strategies for working within the healthcare system. Sadaf will also discuss dementia risk factors, with a focus on women’s brain health and opportunities for early prevention.

Presented by Chartwell Hawthorn Retirement Residence
FitMinds™ is a collaborative program between WE Seniors and Chartwell Hawthorn designed to support brain health through meaningful lifestyle choices. Based on five pillars—nutrition, socialization, mental stimulation, spirituality, and physical activity—this engaging program helps older adults strengthen cognitive resilience and reduce dementia risk. Join Suzanne Chrzanowski for an introduction to FitMinds™ and experience interactive activities that bring the program to life.

3:30 – 4:15 p.m. | Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) and Dementia
Presented by Edmonton Chapter, Dying With Dignity Canada
Learn the difference between a personal directive vs advanced requests, how MAID may work when faced with a dementia diagnosis, and other facts about MAID. Karen Kerr is the current chapter chair of the Edmonton group of Dying With Dignity Canada. She has volunteered with the group for over a decade and brings her personal experience to the conversation after supporting both her parents through their MAID provisions.
