ACTIVE AGING SERIES: Financial Planning For Single Women Part 3 – Building Your Retirement Income & Making Your Home Work for You
This series is designed to support single women over 50 who want clarity, confidence, and practical guidance as they plan for the next stage of life. Each session tackles a different part of financial wellbeing, from retirement income and debt stress to home equity options and government benefits, with presenters who understand the realities women face as they age.
Women in their 50s, 60s, and beyond often navigate financial decisions alone. Many have experienced career interruptions, caregiving responsibilities, rising living costs, or unexpected life changes.
This series brings together trusted experts who explain options in plain language, reduce confusion, and help participants make informed choices that support independence, stability, and long‑term comfort. Across the three sessions, participants will learn how to strengthen their financial literacy, reduce stress, plan for longevity, and build a future that reflects their values and goals.

6:00 – 7:00 p.m. | Understanding Your Retirement Benefits: Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS)

Understanding your retirement benefits starts with knowing how Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS) work together to support you in later life. They form the foundation of most Canadians’ retirement income.

7:00- 8:00 p.m. | Home Equity & Mortgages After 50: Understanding Your Options Presented by Elena Russell, Fast Track Mortgages
Presented by Elena Russell, Fast Track Mortgages
Your home is one of your biggest financial assets, and the choices you make after 50 can shape your retirement income and lifestyle. This session offers a practical look at renewing or refinancing a mortgage later in life, what lenders consider when you’re retired or nearing retirement, and the differences between fixed and variable rates.
We’ll also cover options for single women and ways to use home equity without relying solely on reverse mortgages. You’ll explore whether staying, renovating, downsizing, or moving makes sense for your situation, how housing costs affect retirement income, and how tools like refinancing, home‑equity lines of credit, and traditional mortgages fit into a retirement plan.
8:00 – 8:15 p.m. | Wrap-up & Meet the Presenters at their tables
Cost: $3.00 (includes beverages)
Location: Community Cafe, WE Seniors Edmonton (9629 – 176 St NW, Edmonton)
