DRIVE HAPPINESS
Drive Happiness is a non-profit organization providing assisted transportation to older people with limited income and mobility or health-related issues. Their volunteer drivers safely transport older people wherever they need to go, whether it’s the grocery store, a medical office, a facility like WESAC, or a loved one’s residence. They aim to help seniors age in place, supporting their independence and dignity.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
- Applicants accepted into the Seniors Assisted Transportation Program pay a small annual membership fee, and buy paperless tickets for $10 each.
- Tickets entitle a rider to 90 minutes of time and/or 40km of driving distance; time or distance exceeding these limits will require another ticket.
- Rides must be booked 3 business days in advance by phoning 780-424-5438 or 1-888-336-4503.
- The Drive Happiness office books rides between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm Mondays to Fridays (not including statutory holidays).
THE VOLUNTEER DRIVERS
- Volunteer drivers are screened and trained.
- They must provide a vulnerable security clearance, a clean driving abstract, and a well-maintained vehicle.
- Applicants must be 65+, with sufficient mobility that they can enter and exit vehicles of their own cognizant.
