MAVIES MITTEN TREE – A TRADITION

Our Mavie’s Mitten Tree campaign and event will return to the centre this year and we hope that you will come to celebrate with us.

Mavie, one of our long-time volunteers who turned 103 this year, started this initiative over 20 years ago with a small group of knitters donating hats and mitts to people in need. It has grown exponentially since then and we have been sending out donations each year to many different schools along with other organizations such as the Edmonton Garrison Family Centre and the Jasper Place Wellness Centre.

We will again be working collaboratively with Craft for YEG to assist us with the delivery of knit items. 

We will be sorting all centre donations the first week of December so if you have any hand-knit hats, mitts, scarves, etc. that you would like to donate, please drop off at WSAC by the last week of November.

MAVIE’S MITTEN TREE LUNCH

Along with the donations drive, we will celebrate this season of giving with our Mavie’s Mitten Tree event on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a turkey meal at the centre prepared by Jasper Place High School!

We will be joined by an elementary school class after lunch and we will all enjoy some holiday songs from the WSAC choir, a reading of Mavie’s Mitten Tree story and perhaps even a visit from a special visitor. The children will then all get to choose a pair of mittens from Mavie’s tree. 

As always, there will be door prizes and a 50/50 draw.
