NOVEMBER’S PICKS OF THE MONTH FROM ALIGRA WINE & SPIRITS!
Each month, Alison Philips, co-owner of Aligra Wine & Spirits, and her team will provide us with some tasty suggestions! Many of you will remember Alison as one of our, our Friends of WSAC partners and the wonderful host of our wine tasting events here at our centre that were held in 2020.
Majella The Musician Coonawarra, Australia
Tasting Notes: A “Classically minty Coonawarra Red wine”. Vibrant deep ruby red with a crimson hue. Fresh mint, eucalyptus and spice make up the lifted nose. The palate is soft and well balanced, with blackberries and cassis flavours and supple soft tannins. A perfect pairing of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Perfect for cooler, longer nights and slow cooked beef dinners. Put on your favourite music and enjoy the simple pleasures in life!
Rivera Il Falcone Castel Del Monte Rosso Riserva DOCG 2014 13.5% abv. Puglia, Italy
Tasting Notes: Puglia, located on the far south east part of the ‘boot’ of Italy, is a region bountiful in native varieties. Two of them are prominent in the recipe here: Nero/Uva Di Troia (70%), and Montepulciano (30%). Eye: deep ruby red, orange tones, pink rim. Nose: grilled beef, plums, cola, leather. Palate: good, full body, medium integrated tannins, cranberry cordial, dried strawberries, roasted walnut, long finish. Good finesse, good structure, elegant! Pair with chicken parmigiana, veal, other light to medium savory foods. Drink now – 2025.
Thornbury Tragically Hip Road Apples Cider Canada
Tasting Notes: Road Apples Hard Cider is a collaboration between The Tragically Hip and Thornbury Craft Cider & Beer. With short days and cold temperatures ahead, this cider is an excellent reminder of summer days past. Made with fresh-pressed, local apple juice, it is light bodied and smooth, with a crisp apple finish that is not too sweet. I recommend not waiting until patio season rolls around to give this a try.
