Our Mavie’s Mitten Tree campaign and event will return to the centre this year

We hope that you will come to celebrate with us.

Mavie, one of our long time volunteers who turned 100 this year, started this initiative over 20 years ago with a small group of knitters donating hats and mitts to people in need. It has grown exponentially since then and we are now sending out donations each year to more than 15 schools along with other organizations such as the Edmonton Garrison family centre and the Jasper Place Wellness Centre. We will be sending these out the first week of December so if you have any hand knit hatts, mitts, scarves etc. that you would like to donate, please drop them by the centre by the last week of November.

We will then celebrate this season of giving with our Mavie’s Mitten Tree event

  • Wednesday, December 14/22 from 11:30 – 1:30 pm
  • A turkey meal catered by the Jasper Place High School Culinary Arts Program.
  • We always invite children from a local school to join us after lunch and this year, we will welcome Kindergarten and Grade 2 students from LaPerle Elementary.
  • Everyone will enjoy some entertainment from local singer Jackie Murray, a reading of the Mavie’s Mitten Tree story and perhaps even a visit from a special visitor.
  • The children will then all get to choose a pair of mittens from the Mavie’s tree.
  • Door prizes
  • A 50/50 draw.

  • $20 for members and
  • $22 for guests.
  • Ticket Deadline – Wednesday, December 7, 2022.
