MARCH PICKS OF THE MONTH from Aligra Wine & Spirits!

Each month, Alison Philips, co-owner of Aligra Wine & Spirits, and her team will provide us with some tasty suggestions!  Many of you will remember Alison as one of our, our Friends of WSAC partners and the wonderful host of our wine tasting events here at our centre that were held in 2020.

Staff Member Warren’s Pick – Jolivet Attitude Sauvignon Blanc 81  France

Tasting Notes: This “vin de pays” results from vines planted on the most beautifully managed soils close to the area of the Loire castle, Touraine. “Attitude” has a beautiful freshness in mouth, a delicate green and lemon flavours, citrus fruits, green apple and kiwi aromas. The minerality gives a long finish to the wine, giving a smoothness and elegance. Very pleasant with or without food,in particular with seafood, asparagus, roasted fish and goat’s milk cheese.

Staff Member Derek’s Pick – Stoneleigh Marlborough Pinot Noir  New Zealand

Tasting Notes: Pale ruby colour; bright aromas of violets, cherries and vanilla with beetroot and citrus notes; extra dry, medium-plus bodied, soft tannins, flavours of cherry, vanilla, and oak spice with balanced acidity. Not too dry and slightly earthy. Paired well with trout and roasted veggies.

Staff Member Devin’s Pick – Gray Monk Pinot Gris  Canada

Tasting Notes: The grapes used in the Pinot Gris were selected from vineyards in the northern Okanagan Valley. The grapes were picked at over 22 Brix. The wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation in order to retain maximum freshness. The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks. John Schreiner says, “The wine shows a delicate bronze blush in the glass. It has aromas of fine herbs, citrus and citrus peel. On the palate, the wine has a luscious texture with flavours of pear, apple and white peach. The wine is well balanced, with the residual sweetness plumping up the fruit in the classic Gray Monk style. 90 points.” Whether we are heading into Spring or “fools” Spring, one thing is for sure. I’m ready to sit on the deck in my shorts and flip flops with a nice chilled white wine.
