SUMMARY:BOOKCLUB DROP IN – October
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\n\nCOME JOIN US ~ EVERYONE WELCOME!\nThe Book Club meets monthly to explore four books from Clifton Fadiman’s Lifetime Reading Plan—a list of 100 books that “fill our minds with what the greatest writers of the Western Tradition of literature in English have thought, felt, and imagined.” The list includes fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.\nThough the reading list is rooted in classic literature, our main goal is to have fun while engaging in meaningful, respectful conversations. Meetings are a chance to enjoy great books, share ideas, and connect with other mature adults who love reading.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2nd Wednesday of the month – October 14, 2026\n\n\n10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.\n\n\nBoardroom\n\n\n$ 3.00 Drop-in Fee\n\n\n \nA Prayer for Owen Meany\nAuthor: John Irving\nPublishing Date: 2012\nBook Club /Member Summary:\nI read it many years ago and loved it.  I remember being mesmerized at his ability to take so many different stories and meld them into a coherent and meaningful framework. Irving, an American, fairly recently moved to Canada.  Two of his most famous books are The World According to Garp, and The Cider house Rules–both excellent.  All his books have this unnerving mixture of comedy and tragedy.  It’s a fairly long book (640 pages), but I found that I turned those pages pretty quickly.  While all 3 copies at the EPL are signed out, the book always turns up at used bookstores and thrift stores.  I’ve found many a copy there. I’d be willing to pick up a copy or two if anybody wanted me to.\n \nQUESTIONS?\nContact Mikayla\n780 483 1209 ext. 228\n
